Yeah, starting with learning Russian (5th grade), we were kindly forced to start a letter correspondence with some pupils from the Soviet Union, so to speak.

That’s pretty cool your school had the students do foreign pen pals, Jana. We couldn’t have a foreign pen pal correspondence in school because parents would freak out, too many Americans are terrified of foreigners. I actually have a longtime pen pal from England, I’ve been writing to her since 2009 and we communicate on Facebook Messenger and we send each other Christmas and birthday cards

That was back in the GDR, before the wall came down in 1989. Since Russian was our first foreign language, hence the Soviet Union our 'big brother', we had to. Yet I can't remember how long it lasted.

Interesting to see how things were, before the Wall came down.

There's a lot to tell about my school time till the 7th grade, the year the wall came down. Our whole system was blown out then, and we had to adjust anew.

Today was probably one of the oddest assignments I’ve ever had. I accepted a gig as a substitute art teacher for today and tomorrow and it turned out to be a Ceramics class where students make stuff with clay. That was interesting, the students are working on making clay vessels and later on they’re going to fire them in a kiln and paint them.
What was really weird was that the Mandarin Chinese teacher was also absent and I had to cover for that class too, I was surprised because I don’t speak Mandarin. The students watched an instructional language video and did work on their laptops, I guess they just needed an adult in the class. My high school had neither a Ceramics or Mandarin class, and I’d never thought I’d teach either

It’s been an uneventful few days, but today we had our first lockdown drill 😖 I hate these things, they’re totally random and one doesn’t know if they’re for real or not in this day and age. Of course the kids are giggling the whole time and still eating snacks, they think it’s a joke. I hate these MF’ing things, they could be for real and the kids think they’re a joke.
I was actually caught in a real one years ago, a nearby bank was robbed and the whole area was on lockdown so the cops could find them, and what was really crazy was that it happened during an awards ceremony and a lot of parents were there, so all these people in the auditorium had to hide under the seats for a long time until the cops caught the robbers

Yeah, my thinking about changing my job is going toward teaching as well. I know that there's a lack of teachers here but I need to gather information first.
