I can see it now, we zoom to a nice council estate full of trash and chavs, the real housewives of London.

Who thought that rubbish like this would make good television?
I can see why the Millennial generation is defecting to the Internet.
I can't stand reality shows myself, but I think they're here to stay. They're cheaper to make, no real actors needed, and, if a writer's strike should happen, they will remain unaffected. I think part of the reason that that 2007-08 writer's strike was resolved so quickly was because the networks just threatened to put on more reality shows.
Compare than to the 1988 writer's strike, which lasted for half-a-year. Back then, America's Funniest Home Videos and Cops were the only reality shows on the air.

Oh yes the Kardashian sisters and other reality type shows like Big Brother are here to stay.
God imagine panning down to Hackney and seeing Vicky Pollard from Little Britain there.
We already have Towie and Made In Chelsea thanks. Not to mention Geordie Shore and Googlebox also.
I hate adverts to which is why there's none on the BBC except for listing what's happening in future shows because we pay a tv licence which covers that. But then you find that on Youtube and Dailymotion to.

Which is why I believe that the Old Media, which includes television, has only 30 or 40 years left. By then, the pre-Internet generation would have mostly died off.

Oh Lord tell me about it, I switched on the TV a few weeks ago and was greeted by a most horrific site, shows about those Kardashian twits followed by Toddlers in Tiaras (What even is this) and then something about housewives, no thank you I'll be sticking to my real shows. Commercials (we call them adverts in the UK) are just....eurgh, I've always hated them, I just used to mute the TV and wait for them to finish, sometimes it seems the show has only been back on for five minutes before the adverts start back up again! In the minds of the networks, the commercials are the main attraction, not the other way around, so they do whatever they can to chop up shows and cram in more annoying ads. Reality shows are awful, but they're also dirt cheap to make. They don't require any writers or actors, nor any special effects. It's almost impossible to not make a profit off of them, which is why networks have been turning to them as a failsafe against declining ratings in this day and age of online streaming. Of course, all they're doing is digging their graves even further.

Sorry for not being online that often. My interests lay mostly in TV shows (more oldies, as Tim had said) but also music (but also more oldies). As a teen and student, I watched many Tv shows which I even can't remember all, to be honest. Anyway, I'm open for anything but just be aware of my rare online times. Again sorry!

I've started to realize that one thing a lot of people seem to be doing is posting in threads not because they're really interested in a topic, but because they simply feel like they shouldn't ignore any active thread, no matter what. While intentions are good, I feel like this practice is ultimately bringing down a lot of threads as it leads to shallow, disengaged replies and threads getting derailed from their original topic. It's tough to give deep, interesting replies to a thread if you have no real investment in the topic at hand and only want to chat with other members. And, those who actually do care about the topic have a tougher time staying interested when the other side so obviously doesn't share the same level of interest. There's nothing wrong with being friendly with other members, but there's ALSO nothing wrong with ignoring active threads that don't interest you. I constantly ignore lots of threads for TV shows I don't watch, because why bother posting if you have nothing to add to the thread? Better to just stick to things that interest you and give more meaningful, higher-quality replies to those threads. And, if all you want to do is chat with other members, we have places for that. The Shoutbox was literally designed for light banter, and we also have dedicated threads for venting and talking about the weather. I can even start a "general chit-chat" thread if there's enough of a demand for one. The main forums are meant to be for more meaningful discussion, and I would prefer for them to remain that way. Post in discussion threads because you really care about a topic, not because you want to socialize.

An example of this is the Pokemon thread. No doubt most of you have noticed that I haven't made any posts in that thread. The reason, I know nothing of Pokemon and such. I've tried to follow the conversation, but, to me, it looks like you're talking in a different language.
When it comes to Pokemon, I'm like someone from the World War II generation trying to understand the Beatles, or someone from 1955 trying to understand Madonna. This is a generation gap that I just can't cross. So the best thing for me was to not take part in that thread.

As Tim said, generational divisions are definitely something to keep in mind. While some interests have no generational boundaries, this isn't the case for everything. Listing some of our active members and the years they were born, from oldest to youngest:
Tim: 1966 Jana: 1977 Katherine: 1980 Cerberus: 1987 Myself: 1991 Tess: 1992 Adam: 1992 Megan: 2000
Keep in mind that Generation X is roughly defined as those born from 1964 to 1980, while Generation Y is 1981 to 1994, and 1995 onwards is the younger Millennial generation.
It's perfectly reasonable and expected for someone who grew up in the 70s to not have the same interests as someone who grew up in the 90s. For example, some people here have loads of love and nostalgia for old Saturday morning cartoons from the 70s and 80s, whereas I'm pretty indifferent to them. By the time I was a kid, Saturday morning cartoons were old news, and it was all about Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. The older set of posters here probably don't understand my generation's love for the 90s, and I will never, ever get the love that 15-20 year olds have for the 00s.
Things will be easier here if we can all understand and work through any generational gaps, especially with as few active members as we have.

For example, Tess and I are interested in Imperial Russia, despite our being a generation apart in ages (BTW, Betty, you left Tess off your list, so I added her to it).
And, of course, a lot of us liked Charmed, despite our age differences.
Yeah, that's me. When I was young, there was no Cartoon Network (or Teletoon, the Canadian equivalent). Heck, when I was young, it was the three networks and nothing but.
Betty, on the other hand, grew up with Nickelodeon and a million other channels. Quite a difference. She's not going to have the same connections to Saturday Mornings Cartoons that I did.
I'm sure we can.

What are some things that you all are currently interested in? By that, I don't mean things that you like in general, but the things that are catching your interest the most right now.
For me, big ones are Pokémon and Sims 1. Popular music is something else I've been thinking about lately, as well as anything and everything to do with 90s nostalgia.
