I want to discuss any music with all of you! What are you into right now? Recently I've been super into 80's music, I love synths. Tears For Fears, A-ha and Duran Duran have been plagueing me lately I love modern music, but there's something special about the 80's for me, I wasn't even alive, but I always seem to go back to it. I grew up on Madonna and Belinda Carlisle thanks to my mother. Here's what I'm jamming to right now, its pretty well known I think:

Ah yes, the 1980's, that's my favourite music era too. Of course, Adam, unlike you, I was alive at that time, I can remember when such songs as Born In The USA and Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go actually came out. I can remember when Madonna first appeared on the scene. Now they're starting to call 80's music "classic". Gee, make me feel 100 years old, thank you If you were to see my CD collection, most is 80's music (with some 90's tossed in). It was a great era for music.

Yeah I agree, sometimes I wish I could have been there myself to experience it, where's a TARDIS when you need one eh?
I notice recently in modern music a lot of artists have been trying to bring the sound of the 80's back so to speak, incorporating elements from it into their own sound. Its nice to see that we are not the only ones who think of it fondly.
I think people are even starting to call 90's music classic as well! Its funny because where the 90's is concerned, if I remember rightly at the time, not a lot of people enjoyed it, but when looking back I think people see it more fondly because of what we have today. Of course, I've learned over the years that the charts are not the best place to look for the best music. But these days it seems totally plagued by the same people and if I'm honest, I get a little bored of seeing the same names over and over taking the top spots.

I've always loved 80s music, both the dance pop and the darker/deeper stuff (ie. Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, the Smiths, etc.) alike. Mainstream rock from that decade, however, can kiss off. Nothing but boring stale corporate rock, IMO.There were a lot of bands in the 80s who are commonly seen as one-hit-wonders, but actually had a great back catalog of songs. Everyone knows Soft Cell for "Tainted Love," but have you ever heard "Sex Dwarf" and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"? www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrRmgbchiGYwww.youtube.com/watch?v=GrMj8O40u_4Also, Modern English. They're known for only one hit song ("I Melt With You" ), but they actually have a ton of great deeper cuts. A few of my favorites: "Someone's Calling" --- www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BbpELAK1VQ"Blue Waves" --- www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM0-6xOrVMQ"After the Snow" --- www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T6_yZsWap0

I love music generally and enjoy any era really if the song interests me.
I have 4000 more songs on my phone ranging from 60's to 2017's music with some classical pieces thrown in.
My current ring tones 'Can't Stop The Feeling' by Justin Timberlake because it's such a feel good song that makes me happy.
I grew up in the 80's, 90's so those era's appeal to me musically.
I have too many CD's but more songs mp3 wise.
My favourite Diva's are Christina Aquilera, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion because their voices are/were amazing.
Male wise I do have to shout out Freddy Mercury. Man what a voice especially live. There was nothing he couldn't sing. Sad day when he went.
I also loved Robbie Williams growing up. Still do actually because he was in Take That my favourite boy band growing up the Spice Girls my favourite girl group.
Nowaydays I don't mind Ed Sheeran whose really good, Bruno Mars and Michael Buble whom my mum likes actually.

Ooh I like those Betty, After the Snow I think is my favorite, pretty chilled but still fast enough to get me fist bumping. All this talk of the 80's has reminded me of my favorite 80's song of all time! Laura Branigan - Self Control, www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IyAGpooGkoWhat can I say? I have a thing for 80's diva's! Speaking of, a couple of my favorite Madonna 80's hits: Material Girl - www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNSUOFgj97MPapa Don't Preach - www.youtube.com/watch?v=G333Is7VPOgTime to make a massive 80's playlist on my itunes. The Spice Girls are the group that got me into music, I was around 4 when they debuted and I was OBSESSED, ZIGAZIG-AH! Ginger Spice was my very first crush

I think I pretty much love every Madonna era, even the more questionable modern ones, the songs themselves have been good, at least the album tracks anyway. I think Ray of Light is one of the best albums I've ever heard, from start to finish, flawless. I listened to it in bed once and had the trippiest dream I've ever had, its THAT kind of album. Bedtime Stories is super underrated and I like the genre she chose for that. Speaking of 90's Madonna, I present probably my second favorite pop song of all time, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!? www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJQSAiODqIThe Like a Prayer album is great but imo in desperate need of a remaster like her earlier work, I find it sounds really quiet and tinny on my headphones/speakers. Favorite Ray of Light tracks: Drowned World/Substitute For Love: www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8VObwbShjgBetty already mentioned Nothing Really Matters and Frozen but my other favorite is Shanti/Ashtangi: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hprYoupKgg

I watched a few of those videos from the 80's. To me it was like going back in time, and I was 16 again.
They played those songs in my high school cafeteria during lunch time. So long ago now...

I have most of Madonna's songs featured here.
Is quite amazing how long she's lasted actually.
Same goes with Sir Cliff Richard who my mum loved growing up and still loves actually whom we're going to see July time at the Royal Navy College Greenwich during his Rock 'N' Roll tour then.
My father loved Status Quo and Dire Straits to name a few people obviously. And my mum ABBA plus the BeeGees to.
Britain has quite a few other artists to which had/have stayed a long time also and who were knighted actually including Sir Tom Jones, Sir Rod Stewart and Sir Elton John and David Bowie, George Michael who weren't knighted obviously.
Inadvertantly watching the Goldbergs television programmes reminded me of all the 80's songs around then and some I did not know beforehand actually being why I probably watch it because I associate with that era growing up and everything.

Indeed. As I said, I remember when she first appeared, in the early 1980's. She's almost 60 now, and still going strong.
Yeah, some singers have staying power, while others fade out after only a few years. Some have the luck and talent to last a very long time.

"Vogue" is a classic, no question, but even this Madonna fan has to admit that "Hanky Panky" is pretty cringe. Erotica is pretty forgettable and was considered her least successful album at the time. People were starting to get tired of her sexy antics. (Not unlike what would later happen to Lady Gaga sometime around Born This Way/Artpop.) Of course, this era also produced one of Madonna's only good acting roles, aka. A League of Their Own. Still one of my favorite movies, and she was great in it. As for her other "questionable" era... Well, it kicked off with a bad theme to a bad Bond movie and culminated in her rapping. Thanks for the links, Adam. I'll have to check them out. Ray of Light was her big comeback album in the late 90s. Great album.

I think with Madonna these days she doesn't know what she wants to be, so she tries to emulate the newer generation and it comes off looking quite tacky. Has anyone heard her Rebel Heart album, quite a return to form I'd say, some of my favorites: Joan of Arc: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv40WdbfVw8Hold Tight: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF7H0-PcbmsGhosttown: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEcp2HlFBwEI still remember watching the Brit awards live a couple years ago and seeing her getting pulled off stage by her dancer, I thought she was in serious trouble but ever the professional she got straight back up and continued, there's a reason she's lasted so long, and that right there is why. I am not a fan of the Erotica era, the singles were fine but I found the album very samey, you can make a cohesive album without all the songs sounding totally alike, something that Madonna has done several times herself. My mum is also a big Cliff Richard fan! Always has been and goes to see him almost every year, I think she's going to see him this year in London. We make fun of her for it but he;s an impressive guy, almost 80 and still dancing around the stage, I hope I'm like him in 50 years time.

Oh my! Duran Duran I also heard growing up. My "big sister" heard them every time, along with the Pet Shop Boys. Still one of my favorite groups of the 1980ies. My all time favorite band is ABBA. Though I started with them in 1992 (Erasure, ABBA Gold CD), I still love them and can sing every song with. lol 1980ies: OMD "Joan of Arc", A-ha "Take on me" and others, Belinda Carlisle, Sandra, Falco "Jeanny Pt1 & 2" and others, and so on. My list would be long here. 1990ies: New Kids on the Block (yes, I was a fan of them), Madonna, Duran Duran ... Oh Jesus, I can't remember all my music stuff! But I still love music. lol

I have some CD's of 80's music. This discussion is making me want to break them out and listen to them again.
Cyndi Lauper was another singer I liked at the time (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun). She first arrived on the scene in 1983.
