Perhaps the writers thought introducing Olicity would keep fans happy and stead fast the ratings which is not necessarily always a good thing.

Yep, once again tumblr is trying to dictate what should happen on a CW show, but I praise the writers of Supergirl who haven't given in, I've noticed a few times this season they've put emphasis on Kara and Lena as FRIENDS, obviously an attempt to tell the fans that no, they will never happen, they are not attracted to each other, they will simply remain good friends, and that is enough. I really doubt they would seriously consider it. I really find it crazy how fast this fan group grew. Lena has only been on the show a year, and already they have a huge fanbase for this pairing. I'm guessing the fans are mostly those under the age of 20. Not to be mean to the younger crowd, but most of the crazy shipping fans are generally from that age group. I haven't forgotten the horrible Gossip Girl days. I don't get how some people only watch a television series for a ship or pairing and that is the only part of the show that matters and they will leave the show if their ship isn't together. I never watch a show based on a pairing. I'm more interested in the story, and I personally prefer shipping a sibling or friendship much more. I hate shows that devote so much time to a ship, that the friendships and sibling relationships are pushed to the side. Not that I haven't shipped a couple before.

It's amazing that the writers actually listen to these people on Tumblr. Surely the writers must realize that this is just a small minority. Loud, yes, but small.
Arrow writers need to stop listening to the Olicity nuts. However, it might now be a case of closing the barn door after all the horses have escaped.

The problem is with the head showrunner, Marc Guggenheim. He created Felicity so is doing everything he can to make her be the lead hero of the show, and it just doesn't work. She worked so well in the earlier seasons as the quirky, comic relief side character. He constantly talks about how he listens to the Olicity nutjobs and regularly goes on tumblr, this guy needs the axe asap.

I don't watch shows because of shipping either though I might like some couples from them.
I'm not an Arrow fan of course. I don't watch it barring the last two annual crossovers like I said though I did notice after the invansion storyline last year that people started liking Kara and Oliver which grew stead fast somewhat but wasn't new entirely.
There was a small fan base on them already from people back in the day as far as the Justice League Unlimited 90's cartoon series who liked Oliver's father/daughter type relationship with Supergirl when he took her under his wing and then years later in Smallville season 10 when the two of them worked together to find The Bow Of Orion to stop the oncoming darkness.
I myself do ship them obviously which people will know about through my stories and the recent earth X crossover storyline will fuel Kara/Oliver shippers more like I have seen on Youtube comments and it was nice watching something I liked played out onscreen even if they were evil versions of themselves actually though I don't go hard core on them blasting rude comments like some people have online with Olicity.
If people like pairing them then read about them. There's thousands of stories on them so you don't have to make harsh comments everytime you see people hating Olicity just because they don't agree with what you say.

Another TV Tropes comes to mind here: Creator's Pet And they should replace him with someone smart enough not to take advice from people who clearly don't understand how things work in running a TV show. The problem is that some of these Olicity nuts have been bad mouthing the actors themselves. That is going way over the line.

Some people it seems can't differentiate between real life and TV.

And Tumblr has given these people direct access to the actors and writers.
I wonder how Arrow will do now. I think the only way to make a lot of fans happy would be to kill Felicity off. However, I can't see that happening.

It wouldn't surprise me at all he doesn't like Katie Cassidy or Laurel, and directly played a part in killing her off to push Felicity to female lead. By trying hard to write Laurel unlikable and Felicity likeable, but most fans didn't agree. This is why Social media is bad in today's society for television shows. I have a hunch if this was the 90s or early 00s, Laurel never would of died. Felicity would remain just a supporting character and never involved with Oliver.

Yeah, Jean, the writers of our generation didn't have to worry about fans getting in their faces, because there was no direct contact between them. To TV audiences of the 1980's, the writers and producers of shows were as distant from most fans as the Moon was.
Of course, that is no longer the case now.

*SPOILERS BEWARE*
Well the fall final of Arrow gave us more Black Siren. I loved that she showed some emotion and let Lance go. So we have an alliance of villains who are filled with some of Oliver's former allies turned enemy.
I love Michael Emerson on this show. I got Ben vibes from Lost when he was on ordering to kill team Arrow.
So now the team is divided and everyone has left except the core three Oliver, Felicity and Diggle.
I must say I'm loving Black Siren, and can't wait to see more of her. Less Olicity and more Black Siren and Michael Emerson.

I would love to see Sara Lance encounter this alternate version of her dead sister. I wonder how both would react.

Well I watched the mid-season finale as well, and it was rubbish from start to finish.
A certain someone betrayed Team Arrow literally OUT OF NOWHERE, there has been no build-up, no show of shady behaviour, just...poof, I'm a traitor. Um ok.
As for Michael Emerson, I really like him as an actor, but his character is so mediocre, he has no depth whatsoever, he just randomly doesn't like Oliver.
As for the little team of villains that got together well it can't even compare to the Legion of Doom we got over on Legends, why exactly is Anatoly a member?
The only good stuff this episode was the Black Siren and Quentin Lance story, we finally got to see someone chip away at the bravado and villainy, more of this please writers!

So Wild Dog was the one that said "Hello, I'm a traitor."
You're right, this makes no sense at all. They could have at least had some build up as to why this happened.
I suppose they'll address this when the show comes back in January, but I can still see why fans would be mad.

The ONLY reason I am still watching this once great show is because of Katie Cassidy, she has shown such class and professionalism.
Imagine you get signed onto a show, you know from all the comic book history that in a show about Green Arrow, you are going to be the number 2 most important character, the Black Canary. You know you are going to portray an iconic hero, then imagine how gutted you must feel that after finally becoming the Canary, your screentime is reduced, because of a certain side character who at the time didn't exist in the comics, you start to get less and less air time and less stories involving your character all the while the side character has her entire family introduced, becomes throughly unlikeable to anyone with a brain and then because of politics and a certain showrunner you are inexplicably killed off with your final words wishing Oliver and Felicity get back together.
Then you're offered the chance to return, become an even cooler version of your character, the Black Siren, finally, maybe you were going to get to play the true Black Canary, and you'd have multiple story arcs of redemption and joining the team, except you've been suckered again, because none of that is happening, you still get barely any screentime.
I just can't with this show. This disrespect constantly shown to this wonderful actress is just disgusting, I know she's probably getting paid well but if I was asked to return after that whole tragedy I would refuse and sell my tell-all story to any media who wanted it. Take the show down Katie, I'm with you 100%.
I've also just seen on reddit that this episode is the 2nd lowest ever episode of Arrow in terms of ratings, it only scored 1.33 mil, its now the Arrowverse show with the lowest ratings. Courtesy of Olicity ladies and gents.
