Great pictures. Thanks, Katie.
I hope this is how our discussion threads are set up with a press release and photos as a first post. It will make it easier in a year or two when I rewatch or we jump back to discuss again. So members can remember the plots by reading and checking out the photos for a refresher. Supernatural going on 13 years, I can barely remember what happened years ago.

That way, they won't get lost with the news and general discussions.

Sounds good. We can discuss the show episode by episode.

Sounds good. We can discuss the show episode by episode.
That sounds like a great idea! That way members who fall behind and or have their country airing it later than others, can start their own thread and not get spoiled reading the other threads. Better than all crammed into one thread.

I liked it!
Interesting that they decided to have the new Charmed Ones hit the ground running, with help from Harry (the Rupert Giles of this show), rather than just have the sisters bumbled along, like the original ones did.
I like the new sisters, Mel, Maggie, and Macy. Of course, I'm going to need a few more episodes in order to fully get them. Loved Macy's Dana Scully like attitude at the start. And, like Scully, she's going to have to accept that there are things that science just can't explain.
Clearly there are also influences of Supernatural as well. We have a demon that possessed a human, instead of a guy in black. One big difference is that the Charmed Ones manage to drive the demon out without killing the human in question.
So White Lighters here can bring the dead back to life. Harry heals the bloke that the big bad demon killed (or was the guy just wounded, they never said).
I could have done without the Trump thing. While a good "take that" to Orange Hitler, this is only going to date the series (like the bands at P3 did the original series).
And what about that message from their mother at the end. Don't trust Harry? Why? As some here have speculated, is there a history between the two of them (shades of Patty and Sam).
Anyway, this show is in no way set in the same reality as the original series. As we guess, the Melinda Warren thing was just an Easter Egg. Her picture, in the new BOS is shown for only about ten seconds. Also, White Lighters powers clearly work differently here.
We're off to a promising start.

Decent pilot, only parts I hated was the Trump stuff, and maybe a little less MeToo. I also felt it was too soon for Macy to move in.
Lots of inspiration from Harry Potter (Harry's teleportation) and Supernatural (Black Eyes).
The supporting cast didn't take over, and why should they. This is all about the sisters.
Let's see how this progresses. I hope we get the tension between Macy and her half-sisters, as they learn to know about each other.
Macy acting very Dana Scully, I loved it. A great addition to the series.
I'm giving it more to decide. Too early to tell.

Of course, like Scully, Macy is a scientist and viewed the world through a scientific viewpoint. And, like Scully, her world has now been tuned completely upside down. She is going to have to get used to the idea that there is more to the world that she knew.
However, it seems she is also going to use science as well as magic. That's a nice change from the original show.

Just finished watching it, and I give it a thumbs up! I have to say that I prefer Macy's introduction to Paige's. While it was still a bit rushed, I like that the show actually tried to give her an explanation and backstory for meeting her sisters instead of just a spell being cast and her feeling some mysterious "connection." Feels more grounded and thought-out, and it opens things up to be explored further in future episodes. I also love the sisters' dynamic. It's refreshing to see Macy as the smart, logical one after how stupid and careless the originals had become in the later seasons, and I can already tell that Maggie's going to get the best lines. And, Mel works well as the grounded middle sister, balancing out Macy's logic with her intuition, while also keeping her "party girl" younger sister in check. She's truly the heart of the trio, and is the character Piper should've been in the later seasons. (Really, in general, Macy/Mel/Maggie feel like Piper/Phoebe/Paige done right, which I have no problem with.) This show definitely takes some cues from PLL, with the mystery arc surrounding their mother's death and the multiple red herring villains. Not crazy about text messages appearing on screen (which PLL's later seasons also did), but I can live with it. The #MeToo stuff could stand to be toned down a little, but it doesn't kill the show for me. And, Harry definitely bugged me, but at least the ending suggested that there was more to him than he was letting on. In short, I'm hooked and I can't wait for next week's episode. While this show will probably have a hard time topping Prue-era Charmed, I think it'll easily surpass Paige-era Charmed.

This does invoke some of the good Connie era Charmed.
I have high hopes for this show. This could be Charmed done right.

I have high hopes for this show. This could be Charmed done right. Fully agreed, especially in regards to Seasons 4-8. That was the part of the original that needed rebooting the most, so I don't mind that the Veras are more of a reboot of the Paige P3 than the Prue P3. Also, minor as it may sound, who else loved that the sisters' mother never popped in as a ghost? Penny and Patty constantly dropping in on the old show completely ruined whatever impact their deaths had on the sisters. It also meant that Paige never had to deal with not knowing her biological mother like Macy likely will. (Again, I can't emphasize enough how much better Macy's introduction is being handled than Paige's. It's not perfect, but it doesn't feel like nearly as much of an Ass Pull. I also don't see Macy being quickly sidelined the same way Paige was in S4.)

I agree. Having her come through on the Ouija Board was enough. If Marisol needs to give her daughters important information, she can do it that way.
Of course, Macy's backstory was planned from Day One, while Paige, was literally a last minute rewrite. It's easy to see how the introduction of Macy was much better handled.
