I agree. Having her come through on the Ouija Board was enough. If Marisol needs to give her daughters important information, she can do it that way. Hopefully, this means that the show will actually use its Ouija Board instead of shelving it after only one episode like the original did. Much better than ghosts constantly dropping in (and completely ruining the meaning of death).

They should make it that ghosts can only come to Earth at Halloween, or something like that. However, that's it, no other visits allowed. That way, the mother could appear, but they can't run it into the ground.
Aside from that, they have to use the Ouija Board for info-dumps from the Spirit World.

Okay, going to get the bad out the way. The only thing I didn't like, was the pacing felt very rushed. This pilot truly would have benefitted from being two parts, and Macy moving into the manor at the end of the pilot. Plus the demons in the pilot were pretty slapstick to me and didn't make me feel terror. But I'll give them a pass because it was a pilot budget.
Okay, now I think because this isn't a Paige deal by replacing another sister. I was able to feel for this poor girl.
The highest of the episode was when they were sitting on the bed, and Macy saw the video.
The supporting cast didn't take over.
The new manor (which I believe is the same house they filmed for Witches of East End), the new Book of shadows, and the way the powers work, and healing and so on, that was cool.
I liked Macy's being a Dana Scully. A neat twist.
Maggie was likable and fun.
Mel might be my least favorite so far. I hope they tone her down heaps.
So Mel's girlfriend is the Andy, and that guy with her is her Darryl. Let's hope both will be a unit in the show longterm.
The mother reminded me of Joanna from Witches of East End,
Harry, the whitelighter was pretty cool. I think him being bad is misdirected. I'm the belief that the mother wasn't contacting them with the spirit board, but someone else.
Few questions: *Who killed the mother, I wonder if it was The Source or perhaps one of the fathers. *Harry healing the dead? I think it cannot, but that boy came very close to death. *So Macy's father raised her, I guess the mother sent her away for protection with the dad, but why. *The Source of All Evil better not show up anytime soon. Build him up, and let him take possession of humans, we do not want to see his face at all. Scare us.
I liked it, apart from a few rushed story and pacing problems burning through everything so fast. So I'm sure, the show can improve from here on out.

Yeah, they're handling it much better. Of course, as a said, Macy being the unknown sister was the plan all along, it wasn't a last minute rush job, like Paige was.
Your fellow X-Files fans here (Katie and I) felt the same way. And like Scully, Macy has had her whole world turned upside down.
I wonder if Scully was a partial inspiration for this character?
Amen to that. Keep him hidden, build up the threat. No Whiny Half-Face loser, please.

I managed to download the reboot pilot yesterday evening from YouTube and join all the bits and pieces together. The episode was uploaded in segments. And so will watch it when I have free time then.
Although from the Cafe where I have been reading their reviews most members didn't like the pilot anyway and so probably won't watch on choosing to view classic season 1 Charmed instead.

Harry, the whitelighter was pretty cool. I think him being bad is misdirected. I'm the belief that the mother wasn't contacting them with the spirit board, but someone else. Now, that would be an unexpected twist. We're set up to assume that Marisol is contacting them, but what if it isn't her? Looking forward to how that story plays out. I liked it, apart from a few rushed story and pacing problems burning through everything so fast. So I'm sure, the show can improve from here on out. I'm thinking that they may have rushed through things a little bit in the pilot because they weren't sure if the show would get a full season order at the time. The pacing will probably slow down as the season progresses.

Yeah, what if it's a demon, trying to sow distrust of Harry. The sisters are still new to all this, so I could see a demon attempting this.

The pacing will probably slow down as the season progresses. That's true, and I guess they needed this to be sold to The CW. I guess once we get past the pilot things will slow down. I guess, I still wished it were a two-hour/2-part story. I know Legends of Tommorw got a two-part pilot. But, it will come along nicely I'm sure. Who knows, maybe the pilot on the DVD set will include deleted scenes from the pilot, and those scenes would have helped the plot out more. The next ones look great. I feel the season might end as it began, with us seeing more events set on the night the mother died, and us seeing who killed her, and also her getting Macy to town. That's a flashback episode, I want to see. Actually taking up most of the episode. Because, as we said, the original never did enough flashback episodes. Only, Pre-Witched. I wanted to see more before Grams died, and her raising the girls. We basically got absolutely nothing, if you do not count Pre-Witched and the few flashback short scenes in S1-3. Yeah, what if it's a demon, trying to sow distrust of Harry. The sisters are still new to all this, so I could see a demon attempting this.
That's right, it would also be a neat twist. I've seen the preview for the next episode on Youtube, and it appears that is what might happen. Especially with the spirit board having a life of its own.

Her getting Macy to move, and lots of stuff. Because we only got a brief rundown. This *has* to be shown. I'm with you Jean, I wished Charmed did more flashbacks into the life of the sisters growing up.

The scene in which the Ouija Board seems to reach out and grab them. Yeah, what's up with that?

Exactly. It was a planned story element, and one we no doubt will learn more. So curious to see the mother's backstory explored more, less ghost spirit. Yep. I wonder if Scully was inspired too. I'm really excited about that addition. As X-Files fans here, we'll all be happy to see that story element progress. Exactly. No Whiny Half-Face loser, thank you.

Macy's attitude did remind me of Dana Scully, when she was first assigned to the X-Files. Scully thought science was the answer to anything. I mean when she saw those two ghosts, one with the hole in his head, she just shut down (she fainted, because she could not accept what she was seeing and her brain just shut down, IMO).
Macy seemed to be the same way. However, unlike Scully, she had to accept that magic did exist. However, as we saw, Macy plans to use science to help her and her sisters. So she's making both work.

The scene in which the Ouija Board seems to reach out and grab them. Yeah, what's up with that? I saw that scene, and yes it does seem like it is acting up. So we might certainly have a demon that is intercepting the board, with messages.

She was, I'm just flashing back to Dana Scully in the first X-Files episode. But you bring up a good point, unlike Scully, she had to accept that magic did exist. I love that she'll be making both work. I appreciate they are trying to be different. I wonder what classes Maggie is taking, and what she wants to study? I guess we can expect more plots with the campus being apart with innocents needing to be saved.

And, unlike Scully, Macy won't be abducted and implanted with a chip
No doubt we'll find out as the show goes on.
