The Spanish entry in 2018 was a duo called Amaia and Alfred with a song called "Tu Cancion" (Your Song).

Ah no, that wasn't what I meant. It was sibling pair. Found it. Was Salvador Sobral from Portugal in 2017.

Oh yeah the Portugese guy was good then.
On a positive note the Switzerland contestant Gjon's Tears now has a record contract with a French label which's great for him career wise because his voice deserves to be heard.
Whether that happened before or after Eurovision is unsure but fantastic all the same and parallels acts like ABBA and Celine who made careers from the contest.
I'll look forward when his first album comes out which I'm sure will have French, English, and Albanian language songs on most likely his first single Babi plus this years and last years Eurovison songs he also submitted.

It's very seldom that a career can start from the Eurovision. Only ABBA and Celine made it. Well, let's see how it goes on!

I will root for him certainly including other people around the world who've commented despite the fact he didn't win overall Saturday evening he definately was a highlight of the contest being the best vocalist hence why Gjon won the jury vote getting him noticed which says a lot there obviously.

As most people here know my winner for this year's Eurovision Song Contest was the man from Switzerland called Gjon's Tears who I've become obsessed with musically lately because of his amazingly talented voice.
Since then an official remixed version of his song "Tout L' Univers" has been released which I thought I'd share below plus what he thought of this years contest and coming in third etc.

With this years Eurovision Song Contest literally two months away I listened to the first 28 songs today which have been released by the countries who will represent this year and have 3 songs that give me winner vibes currently.
Of course there is the usual campiness in some of this years entries and a varied amount of bops also getting my head already nodding.
There are more countries yet to release their songs like the last of the big 5 the UK who normally submit what they've done around April so I shall get to those when they come around.
Considering I've downloaded the current 28 songs this should be a good year like last although until I see the semi finals and final itself I can't comment whether it'll be better than 2021.
Anyway in no particular order I will comment and link on my top 3 and say why I like them of course.
The first on my list is 'River' by Krystian Ochman who won the Polish national final which this performance is taken from.
What struck me was the staging and the colors which immediately grabbed me. The drum and violin beat and his voice obviously.
I should warn all three of these songs are very emotive which normally get me like Gjon's Tears from Switzerland last year who I've since followed on from the Eurovision Song Contest so there not bops unfortunately and their also written by the artists singing making the performances more personal that get me as well.
The song itself is about feeling pressure and having to succeed when sometimes all you need to do is just take a step back and breath naturally.
My second pick is Sheldon Riley from Australia with his song 'Not The Same' which he wrote in his head at 6 years old talking about the fact he was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and was bullied about that in school plus the fact he grew up gay in a religious family and how he wasn't the same as his dad who took some time getting used to his son's sexuality.
You can tell by the performance Sheldon's a flamboyant dramatic guy and that the mask he wears is him hiding his true self which the removal of that signifies who he now is and accepts of course.
I've known him before when he's appeared on the Voice Australia, AGT, and Australian X Factor where he did well my only criticism is some people might not like the fact the chorus is repetitive although Sheldon delivers that each time differently plus having a bit more lighting and been able to see his face more though I get the timing and intention of the facial reveal in the video.
The video gave me the Gjon's Tears goosebump vibes I got last year so I definitely will probably vote for Sheldon of course. And like Gjon's Tears he might be my male vocalist this year.
My last choice is a former Eurovision contestant who competed in 2019 with the catchy song Soldi that been Mahmood from Italy who duets with another Italian singer called Blanco on an emotive song about sexuality and the conceptuality of what a straight relationship should be.
I choose this version of 'Brividi' because it features a live orchestra that the official music video doesn't a once staple of Eurovision sadly no longer around which's a shame as the strings really made this song along with Mahmood and Blanco's harmonies also.
Whether the orchestra's featured during Eurovision which I don't think it will will have to be seen no doubt.

We also made our choice on Friday, I think. Haven't heard or seen that song yet. Well, I let surprise me here.

I'm surprised it hasn't been cancelled, due to the war.

Well, the Ukrainian entry has shot up to number 1 in the betting odds. If that's because of what's currently going on and not for the song itself I think it's unfair to the other entries and so should be judged the same obviously.
Also if the song gets to the final and wins many televotes for the same reason then that's also not right and may turn people away from watching the contest especially if a better song deserved to win than them outrightly.

I'm surprised it's happening at all. With a major war taking place practically next door.

Russia have been banned from the contest as part of the ongoing sanctions with the country. Considering what's happening currently it's probably the best.
The act who'll represent Switzerland this year will be announced 12pm with their music video then. My guess is the artist like Luca Hanni and Gjon's Tears will have been preselected and not publicly selected again because of how well Switzerland did last year and 2019 going that way obviously.
