Henry Cavill In Talks to Return as Superman in Upcoming DC Movie. SOURCE: Variety.Com BY Variety Staff. May 27th 2020. variety.com/2020/film/news/henry-cavill-superman-movie-dc-comics-batman-justice-league-cameo-1234618227/Henry Cavill isn’t hanging up his Superman cape just yet. Sources confirm to Variety the “Man of Steel” actor is in talks to return as Clark Kent in an upcoming DC Comics movie. Warner Bros. and Cavill’s reps couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday. In addition to Zack Snyder’s Superman origin story “Man of Steel” in 2013, Cavill played the iconic hero in 2016’s “Batman v Superman” and 2017’s “Justice League.” Snyder recently announced the long-rumored “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” for HBO Max, though insiders tell Variety Cavill wouldn’t be suiting up for the director’s cut, but rather a cameo in one of DC’s upcoming films, which include “Aquaman 2,” “The Suicide Squad” and “The Batman.” In a Mens’ Health’s December cover story, Cavill revealed he had not given up the role. “The cape is still in the closet,” he said. “It’s still mine. I’m not going to sit quietly in the dark as all the stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.” The British actor’s most recent big-screen appearance came in 2018’s “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” alongside Tom Cruise. Cavill currently stars in Netflix’s “The Witcher” and plays the role of Geralt of Rivia. He’s repped by WME, manager Dany Garcia of the Garcia Companies and Gang, Tyre, Ramer and Brown. The news of Cavill coming on to a DC Comics movie was first reported by Deadline. What do you, people here think of this?

Apparently, he won't star in a 'Man Of Steel 2' Superman film but guest star in other upcoming DCEU ones like the second Shazam film with Black Adam in it played by the Rock so execs can get around paying Henry less for having not much onscreen time because he can be hard to work with I heard somewhere which leaves him to continue being in the Witcher also.

Henry was okay, but Tyler is much better, IMO.

Henry as the Witcher tv series which is doing so well, so I can see why a sequel series won't happen for him. Just extra bucks for using him in other people's films and paying Henry less and profiting off using Superman.

I've only known him as Superman. It seemed odd to me to hear him talking in his natural British accent.

I've only known him as Superman. It seemed odd to me to hear him talking in his natural British accent. I've seen him in many things, and funny, I've gotten used to his natural British accent. But maybe, as I saw some UK stuff, that's why. He is a good actor, that just got crappy material for Superman. If Snyder wasn't part of it, maybe it would be better.

I agree, he's a good actor.
And he was a good Superman once he was allowed to smile.

I knew Henry from the Tudors as Charles Brandon and also as Clark/Superman plus being in the Immortals film but nothing else otherwise.
Like Katie said some people probably didn't like Henry's portrayal as the Man Of Steel because he played Clark/Superman angry with a few light-hearted moments thrown in whether that was to do with writing or how Henry played him personally I don't know what I do though is that fans probably expected Henry to act Clark like Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh did closer to Kal-El's true personality which was different from what you saw onscreen.
Maybe if some of that shows in whichever new DC films Henry guest stars in those who didn't like Superman might finally come around to him then.

The problem was never him. Hopefully this time they'll get the writing and characterization right. He's a good enough actor to pull it off.

Yeah, it wasn't Henry's fault. Others were to blame (yes, Zack Snyder, I'm looking at you).

Yeah, it wasn't Henry's fault. Others were to blame (yes, Zack Snyder, I'm looking at you). Agreed, he was the problem. I wished Superman Secret Origin was what they adapted for the movie or based it on than what we got for Man of Steel, it was a modern take on the origin story, and also had so many nods to the past and the old superman movies. Now, the only big problem truly in casting was their Lex, he was terrible regardless of writing, the actor was so not right for the role. No writing can fix that bad casting choice.

Interesting to note that the more successful DC movies, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam, were not directed by Snyder.
Jon Cryer blows this clown out of the water.

Considering they've recast Batman hopefully they will recast Lex as well if they even plan to use him at all.

If Lex was seen again I would want him recast as Adam said but if Jesse's portrayal of the Luthor billionaire wasn't well received maybe the execs might decide not to use the character again.

As I said, DC has had much more success on television. Just focus on that.
