More great art, Betty.
Did they ever change their clothes on the show?

As you would expect from a show that aired on MTV in the 90s, Daria had an amazing soundtrack. Great mix of alternative/indie rock and pop music that often set the tone of certain scenes and gave the show flavor. Some artists like Splendora (who created the theme song) and Mono (whose song "Life in Mono" appeared in a S2 episode) wouldn't have gotten much exposure at all without the show. However, the the show was completely gutted in the DVDs. Literally nothing survived besides the theme song. You can find a good list of songs that were originally used right here. And, this site has full episodes with the original music.

Let me guess, those damned copyright laws again. They need to be revised or scrapped, IMO.
People watching the DVD's will never be able to enjoy the songs like the original fans did.

This is one of the big reasons I never bought the Daria DVDs like I did B&B. The B&B DVDs were able to save most of the music video reviews, so they're still a mostly complete product. The Daria DVDs, on the other hand, are a gutted version of what originally aired.
Plus, you can't buy the seasons separately, and I have no interest in spending $$$ on the horrible last two seasons (including the two TV movies). I don't want to buy DVDs that I'll never watch.

You can't?
Most shows package their DVD's by season. Why doesn't Daria?

I think that's more normal for live-action shows than it is cartoons. FWIW, the B&B DVDs are also only available as a complete series. (Luckily, in the case of that show, its entire run was good, so it doesn't matter.) ........ Who wants some anti-S4-5 memes? "Just Add Water" = second-to-last episode of S3. Aka. the last episode before Tom's first appearance and the show decided to throw cold water on Daria/Trent... and the point where I stop watching the show. Trent can smell a rat... or more accurately, a poorly-written Gary Stu. Daria speaks for the fandom and gives Gary Stu the ol' " Bye, Felicia." Yes, that's really the bullshit excuse the showrunner gave for sinking Daria/Trent and shoving Tom onto us. All while portraying Daria/Tom as the most miserable, toxic relationship ever. Go on! Slug him, Jane!

These are pretty good, Betty. Nice way to vent your frustration at the direction the show took.

I hate the idea that Daria/Tom is more "realistic" than Daria/Trent. Not only does it carry an assumption of "Daria is too plain/ugly to get the hot guy" (which is a completely awful thing to say), but it's also effectively making an excuse for relationship abuse under the guise of "realism." This is what normal Daria/Tom interaction looked like: He didn't respect her AT ALL. He constantly spoke down to her, insulted her, and argued with her. He never loved or accepted her for who she was. Even worse, Tom got with Daria in the first place by cheating on Jane. He has no respect for women, period. He's a mediocre rich white guy who expects women to fall all over him just because and drops them as soon as he gets bored. And, yet, the showrunner wanted us to ROOT FOR HIM! He wanted us to see Tom's shitty behavior as just being "normal" and "realistic." He wanted us to think "well, Daria's a mean b*tch, so she deserves it." This is what gets me so much about the last two seasons. It's not just about preferring Daria/Trent. It's about the way the showrunner clearly started to despise the main character and everything she stood for. He was effectively saying that being weird/different/socially-awkward were character flaws, after all, and that the many girls who identified with Daria that they really were failures for not being Prom Queen.

They need to do a movie where Daria drops Tom for good and goes back to Trent.
I'm sure most Daria fans would appreciate that.

Unfortunately, that'll never happen from TPTB, who hated Daria/Trent and shoved Tom onto us in the first place. Plus, I think there's also many people who hate Tom, but either slash Daria with Jane or wants her to be a Strong Independent Woman Who Don't Need No Man TM. Unless it's being made by someone who genuinely loves the characters and couple, I'd rather just have fanfiction and fanart.

Surely they must be someone in power that likes Daria and Trent.
Mind you, I'm guessing here.

As I pointed out earlier in the thread, Trent's VA was a fan of the couple. A few of the writers from the early seasons might've been, as well. I need to rinse Daria/Tom out of my mouth. So, here's some kissing pics.

Once again, great drawings, Betty.
Once again the fans know the characters better than the actual showrunners did.
