I changed the title from Shadow to The Winchester Reunion just as it fitted the story.
This one does not end with a cliff-hanger, so now the next one can get back to a standalone story, if anybody wants to write one.
Lots more with John and the boys in this one with the reunion, but of course, I ended it with him still going away, to look for the colt, and going to see Caleb, as we talked about a while back Caleb hunting with John at the time of Dead Man's Blood, so it fits the timing.

Season 1 Episode 16: "The Winchester Reunion"
THE WINCHESTER REUNION - CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - ONE WEEK AGO - A young girl (guest star Melanie Papalia) is walking through the streets when her iPod goes dead and feels she is being watched. She freaks out and starts to run as a shadowy figure appears behind her. She runs into her apartment and locks herself in, setting the alarm system. Just as she starts to get comfortable, the shadow enters her house, creeps up behind her, and rips through her chest.
LAWRENCE, KANSAS - Continuing from last episode, everyone is still stunned to see John show up at Missouri's house. John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) smiles "Hey, boys" Dean (Jensen Ackles) and John walk towards each other and share a long, emotional hug. As Sam (Jared Padalecki) watches sadly. Then Sam and John greet, but do not hug, but look at each other. John greets Jo (Alona Tal) and Missouri (Loretta Devine), who greets John back, before moving into another room to give them some space.
John reveals that he heard about Dean and is glad he is okay, Sam gets angry at John asking where he was, and that Missouri told them she and Jim had been helping him. John reveals he knows about the demon and that it knows he'll kill it, but he has to do it alone as he is after something very important that might kill it.
He explains that he plans to actually kill the demon, and not just exorcise it as hunters do to all demons. John tells Sam he is sorry for Jessica. John tries to apologize for the last time they were together, and Sam simply says Yes Sir, and John tells Sam it has been a long time, and they embrace, as he and John start crying, and then pull apart, as the three of them share a family moment.
Missouri and Jo come out and ask if they hashed things out, and they all nod. John tries in his own way tell Missouri she was right to not keep secrets, and Missouri tells John no need to say a word, she's glad he came to his senses. John tells Jo that his biggest regret was the last case he worked on with her dad Bill, and Jo knows what he did was the best he could, and admits she has read his journal. Dean tells everybody this is starting to turn into a Hallmark movie, and getting weird.
Dean and Sam ask if this means John is staying, and admits, he won't. Missouri rolls her eyes and asks John if they should tell them about the you know what. John doesn't want to put his boys or Jo in danger, but Missouri thinks they need all hands on deck to find it. Missouri reads John's thoughts and tells John to quit it. John confesses about the Colt, and the name rings a bell with Jo, who remembers hunters talking about it at the Roadhouse as a myth. Sam and Dean ask John if this is what might be able to kill the demon, and he nods. He tells the boys this is why he is leaving again, so he can look for it, as all demons are looking for it. Sam asks if it is the demon's children, and John nods.
John shows them a paper and some notes of a new case in Chicago, Illinois of a young girl named Meredith who was being chased by a shadowy figure behind her, and was ripped apart through her chest. Missouri immediately knows it to be a Daeva which is an ancient demonic creature of shadow, a special type of demon, that can be summoned by other demons, but they'd have to investigate more to be sure. Sam then remembers reading them in John's journal, they are similar to hellhounds and unlike most demons, these demons do not need a host to attack humans.
John however is worried that it could be a trap and the demon is there or others. Sam and Dean refuse to let their dad go alone. Missouri and Jo agree. Dean and Sam think they should do this together. Missouri tells John to just work with them. Missouri tells John she and Jim will keep working on finding out any new leads to find the colt.
Jo thinks they should go to the Roadhouse first, and Sam and Dean think that's a good idea, and where they'll drop Jo off. Jo wants to go with them, but John, Dean, and Sam think they should just go together alone. Jo doesn't complain, knowing the family should spend time together.
SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA - Arriving at the Roadhouse, Jo comes through the door, as Bobby (Jim Beaver), Ellen (Samantha Ferris) Ellen, and Ash (Chad Lindberg) are happy to see her. They see the Winchesters come through the door, all surprised to see John and thrilled. They are overjoyed to see him, but soon not surprised to know it won't be a long stay.
John fills them in on the case in Chicago, Illinois, and the Roadhouse crew want to back them up, but they do not want to put them in danger. Bobby has a go at John, and everyone gets nervous about where this is going. But it turns to a civil conversation, and John agrees that if they need back-up they'll call them.
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - John, Dean, and Sam now dressed as security alarm repairmen investigate the murder, the second one in two months John says according to his research.
A landlady provides the three with information on how this place was locked up and the alarm was still on, and about how Meredith was killed.
John tells Dean and Sam he also checked with the police and found out that Meredith's heart was missing. Dean manages to lay out a symbol with masking tape from the carpet – and John knows clear as day it's a Daeva. He tells the boys to go to the bar Meredith worked and ask questions, while he'll look more into Daeva from his own research.
Later at the bar where Meredith worked, Dean and Sam are talking about the case and about how nice it is to have their dad with them hunting as a family, but Sam isn't so sure and isn't going to get excited, as he knows he'll leave after the case is done.
Sam and Dean are interrupted when Sam spots Meg (recurring guest star Nicki Aycox). Meg talks about how she didn't make it to California and ended up in Chicago. She's not impressed with Dean at all but Sam covers. Sam gets her number and they agree to meet up later.
But after they leave, Sam is suspicious and insists there's something up with her, it's too coincidental she is here. And with what they know, she could just as easily be a demon.
Sam decides to watch her, while Dean contacts Ash to check up on Meg's history, as he and John continue to research.
While Sam sits outside Meg's apartment, observing her from the Impala, Dean calls to say her story checks out from what Ash looked into, and to come back to the hotel, as their dad has a plan to stop the Daeva.
Sam tracks Meg to an abandoned warehouse, where he observes her at an altar, communicating with someone through a large goblet of blood.
Sam returns to tell John and Dean what he’s seen. Dean and John have more information to report, both victims so far were actually born in Lawrence, Kansas. Suspecting that they may be close to the demon that killed their mother, but are worried it might be a trap.
Sam and John get into an argument over the situation, only to be interrupted by a call from the real Meg who is in need of their help, crying that a demon had been taking over her body for months, and to please help her. They track Meg down to a building, only to be attacked by a possessed Meg again.
Meg reveals the murders were a plan to trap them and commands the daevas to attack them and laughs that John is more vulnerable when he is around his sons. Once they are restrained, bound to pylons, slashing and beating them hard until suddenly Bobby and Jo show up to save them when Bobby repels them by lighting flares.
Meg not expecting back-up runs away, as Sam attempts to go after her, but Dean and John tell him to just let her go, as John admits that she is still an innocent girl inside, and she could be saved eventually.
Escaping outside to the Impala, Sam screams that they don't have much time because as soon as the flare’s out, they’ll be back. John thanks Bobby and Jo for coming to their rescue, and Bobby admits Jo was the one who believed it was a trap, and they came here right away. Jo hits Dean, and Dean shrugs that she was right, that they needed help. But Dean announces that Meg was right that John is vulnerable when he is around them, and they must separate. Sam protests, but John agrees. Bobby tells John they'll look after his boys, and he hands Bobby a paper and tells John that Caleb might have a lead on the colt that might be worth checking out.
John tells Sam this fight is just starting, and they all have a part to play, and if this lead is right, and they find the colt, it will mean it will finally be over.
John, Sam, and Dean are silent for a moment, close to tears. As John walks to his truck. Once inside, he looks back at them one more time telling them "Be careful, boys." Bobby puts his hand on Sam's shoulder to comfort him.
As everyone goes their separate ways, they are observed by a figure in the shadows who comes out to reveal its Meg, who smiles having heard the entire conversation.
