Car update - Unfortunately it looks like I will need to buy a new one as my mechanic thinks my current one's engine could be wearing thin forcing oil to leak and smoke to come out of the exhaust and bonnet so I shall be vehicle hunting this Saturday after we've had a roofer in the morning come obviously.
The car is 18 years old so replacing the engine isn't worth what the the motor is valued at now anyway.
I have enough saved to purchase a decent second-hand one so once I've done that I will scrap my Renault subsequently.
If I'm not on here much it's because I'm looking up vehicles to view then.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Katherine. Good luck! And I hope to be back to biking soon enough, or walking.

Cheaper to get a new one.

If a car is worth £700 and the repair costs over £1,000 certainly.
I can't off-road my current vehicle because I don't have a driveway and so will still have to pay tax a month on it.
Insurance was paid upfront so when I got a new motor I can change the reg number over and pay the insurance company admin fee instead of buying a whole new cover for next year being cheaper.

Not sure what that translates into dollars, but it sounds like a lot.

Not worth it, if a new car is worth less. Better to retire the can and put it out its misery and get a new one. Less hassle in the long run with repairs. Good luck with this.

I didn't go out and look for cars yesterday as Mum and I had roofers in hopefully fixing our leak putting new flash band on that at the back which we'll see if it works today being meant to rain and everything.
They came pretty late in the afternoon so we wouldn't have had enough time to visit showrooms before they closed then.
We'll go next Saturday instead.

Have finally bought a car which I purchased yesterday evening. It's from the car company Cinch which is a UK-based website that sells used cars and vans for people to own either outright or pay off on finance then. www.cinch.co.uk/I chose the latter which I've done twice before on different vehicles because that meant I could get a newer car a 2016 Suzuki Celerio Automatic In this colour, my favourite is a 1.0 engine so cheaper on petrol, no road tax, and cheaper yearly vehicle insurance premium also. Because I'd saved up quite a lot I was able to put down a good enough deposit to lower monthly payments to pay off the rest at £89.61 which I can afford on the earnings I make. Although the value of the car once paid and owned would be more than what it's truly worth purchasing the vehicle this way was better than going through a showroom which I did yesterday having shopped around a few in my local town as the repayments were lower obviously. The vehicle will be picked up next Friday morning after Breakfast Club from between 9-10 at a car dealer location near the school where I work and a Cinch employee will do the handover although free home delivery is available as well. That option wasn't chosen because the times available weren't around my work schedule. After all, I'm out multiple times in the day. I plan to keep the Suzuki for 3 years and then trade that and go for a newer vehicle so I avoid any major issues owning an older car although I know anything can arise in any aged motor though. My Renault Modus will be scrapped afterwards.

Nice looking car.
Is this why you were missing these past couple of days? Just curious.

Yes. I was browsing cars online and went window shopping yesterday too.
Looked at a lot of YouTube reviews on this as well.
Is very clean and reliable to run and cheap on petrol as well being £20 a week compared to £40 I paid on my Renault Modus.
Maintenance costs are said to be relatively low themselves.
Running costs outweigh the cons of having no sat nav, parking sensors or rearview camera either which I can put up with not having them.
It has Bluetooth so I can connect my phone and make/receive calls hands-free whilst playing music from Spotify and using TomTom sat nav app neatly.
The only issues people have mentioned are the suspension feels firm, the steering doesn't turn freely on its own if going around bends on country roads and you have to rev the engine up more when overtaking on motorways but otherwise, it's good in itself.
I got a quote of £220 scrappage on my Modus which I expected and am just waiting for contact from them to arrange collection time of the vehicle taken away.

Well, rest easy I wasn't arrested and am gonna be sent to jail then. 😁😁
Anyway had to tax the vehicle online even though it's exempted so the DVLA know the car will have a new owner from Friday.
Apparently, you still have to tax a car even if it's free like on my vehicle which is weird but I did it anyway although I'm glad the car company gave me the 11-digit reference number found on the logbook despite not having that yet otherwise I couldn't have taxed it with just the registration number obviously.
Have to wait up to 5 days for the records to be updated. If it's not then either contact the DVLA or do that at the post office otherwise.
The scrappage company will collect my Modus sometime between 7-5 tomorrow but because I'm working Mum will have to hand over the documents herself and show them ID she's got confirming who she is of course.
