What does your family do for New Year’s? In our family, we eat twelve grapes at midnight and write out twelve wishes on a paper before tearing it into tiny pieces and throwing them out the window. We also throw a bucket of water out the door. These are all customs in Spanish-speaking countries

I just spend the evening quietly at home. My partying days are long behind me.

This year, I just stayed at home with family. And I even spent an hour texting one of my close friends on the phone, who also was staying at home, watching their favourite shows.

It would seem most of us stay at home then and watch new year celebration shows and ring that in however each country does so of course.
My mum and I watch Big Been chime normally and the fireworks display at the London Eye which sells out very quickly because it's expensive going out and I hate fireworks anyway so that's enough for me.

When you're in your 50's, partying is not as appealing as it is when you're in your 20's.

Yes, I have been to the city for the fireworks before a few years back, and I'm not really in the mood for it again. Much too busy, and just getting out of the city is a nightmare. I've only done that twice in my life, and really it is pretty hectic.
However, some of my friends, go on vacation, and prefer to the hotel, with a perfect view of the fireworks, so they can just watch them from a balcony, and not even need to go into the city. The view up high is much better. Then, they browse the city on New Years Day, when everybody is hungover, and asleep, and it's so quiet.

We drink sparkling wine and wish each other all the best. Sometimes we visit my aunt who was born on New Year's Eve. Most of the time, we celebrate quietly.

Yes, going to be different this year for many. But, I'm more concerned with New Years', as if, anybody would want to go out partying, half the places won't be open, I'm sure. But you know, plenty are going to break rules to get drunk with their friends. For me, I'm going out nowhere on New Years' Eve, apart from zooming with family and friends and a glass a wine and watching stuff, and maybe even browse this board . Christmas is going to be quiet this year, I'm am spending it with family, but not a big gathering this year, we can make up and go big next year.

Don't get me started on New Year. I do not like to go out especially to the city, I've done it twice in my lifetime to watch the fireworks it's just once it hits midnight, It's horrible.
I don't get the appeal, and how people do that every year. I don't hate going out, It's just New Year is the only night of the whole year I want to NOT go out for how crazy and busy it is. I prefer it quiet now.
I can see why my cousin and her husband, go straight to bed after midnight or early every year.

Oh yes, me too. Just not going out, just at home this year.
I'll be glad to put 2020 behind us.

This year will just be my mum and I. We normally have my sister home also but won't because of Covid being a vulnerable adult in a residential home.
Been in tier 4 now London and the South East can't meet other households Xmas day so people have to stay in unfortunately unless they live alone or are vulnerable of course.
New years cancelled too with pubs, bars and restaurants closed plus the annual fireworks by the London Eye so people will have to celebrate a different way naturally.
Folks will let fireworks off in their homes I expect still though.

I'm for the first time really completely alone this year. My Mom died, her sister, my aunt, too. I'd rather forget this year!
