I did enjoy the earlier seasons of Supernatural more when the show had further standalone episodes and the original planned Michael/Dean Sam/Lucifer storyline because it was well thought out that spanned multiple seasons making sense how it played out with season 5 being a good time to finish that obviously whereas the latter years rehashed things and the years storylines were condensed to that despite it introducing interesting characters along the way like the Wayward Sisters, Rowena, Ketch Charlie, Jack, and Garth, etc although Claire and Jody had appeared in Supernatural before season 6 came on.
If we did SDOW I'd probably do the five years planned bringing in the above supported characters somehow so we got to see them but make sure all the female ones weren't killed off every episode of course.

Me too. If I did it I'd have it be a five season series, but I'd include all the supporting characters from later seasons. Actually you could just grab all the standalones from S6-S15, and substitute them for episodes in 1-5. I fully agree with you, with the female characters not being killed off every episode, and giving them backstory. If we did SDOW, I think we could make it a more ensemble series, than how the show started with Sam and Dean. Yes, they were the stars and the core heart of SPN, but if we stuck to the original format, It wouldn't be too similar, and get boring sticking to the S1 format with just Sam and Dean. I think If we did it, maybe pair Ellen and Bobby together and being married like in the alternate timeline, that Ellen and Bobby married after their partners died, so Bobby is part of the Roadhouse and Jo's step father. And Ellen and Jo have a bigger role in the series. Obviously bringing in Charlie earlier. Maybe Charlie is Sam's age and went to college with him and knew Jessica, she could even be one of his old college roommates who called him for help like in Skin with the Shape shifter and his old college friend, that is a fun way to introduce her into the story. In the first season, we had an episode called the Benders, with a female sheriff who's brother was killed, and she was based in Minnesota, which is where Donna lives. You can adjust the episode and turn her into Donna or even let that episode be adapted so Jody's husband and son were killed by the Benders. Do more with John in the first season tracking down the Yellow Eyed Demon, maybe he even hunts with other hunters like Rufus. We got so many hunters in S1 mentioned and they ended up dead near the end of Season 1. Since Rowena is a witch, and we got backstory in S3 that Ruby was a witch in her past before she became a demon, maybe she could be introduced in that episode in the coven. And the Wayward Sisters can easily be brought in, just adapt their standalone episodes into S1-S5 episodes, and cut/replace ones you didn't like.

I absolutely love your ideas Kyle. Lots of good ways of bringing the supporting cast in earlier.
Me too. No way Charlie dies.

I have another suggestion, you could combine Meg and Ruby into one character. Meg can fool Sam playing up she is Ruby the demon (when really Meg in a new body), when in fact she is really Meg, and reveals who she is when Lucifer is free, she doesn't get killed like Ruby, and escapes. One thing that I would make sure is that Charlie is NOT killed off. I'd leave her in Oz with Dorothy. Couldn't agree more. I'd leave her in Oz with Dorothy, if she we wanted to park/end the character. And we can give the Wayward Sisters their series.
That would be nice too.
Wonderful idea.

I do like that idea Dark Avenger, to just let Meg hav a recurring role. And it fits, since in S5, Meg was serving Lucifer, like she was with YED. I mean when she first meet Sam and connected with him, I wonder if they originally intended for Meg being the one to help Sam with his demon powers and fool him into releasing Lucifer. Cool idea.

Maybe we can adapt some ideas from the Supernatural Anime too, they did lots of differences and used Yellow-Eyed Demon, John, and Missouri more than the show did in season 1. With even showing John on the road hunting during season 1 episodes.

They also had Missouri's house burn than the Roadhouse. Maybe we'd decide to keep the Roadhouse around, and go with the Missouri plot of her house burning down, and she then meets Sam, Dean, Ellen, Bobby and Charlie at the Roadhouse with the research she collected.

That would work. I liked the roadhouse, and wished he had stuck around longer. It would be good for SDOW, as a way to bring the characters together, like the Bunker. If Bobby and Ellen are married and run it, then that would be a nice place for the hunters an characters to come visit often, like we got with Bobby's place or the Bunker.

And when John goes missing, if you stick to how it started, you can introduce Bobby, Ellen, Jo and Ash already in the first or second episode of season 1, when Ellen calls John on a case, and they get her call and come to the Roadhouse. Sam wouldn't have seen the roadhouse crew since he left for college, but maybe Dean had, or maybe John and the Roadhouse had a falling out like the show did with John and Bobby.

I like this. Glad you did, since I don't think rewriting S1 to be Sam/Dean centric with them just hunting on their own will work or be as fun, we already saw that in season 1, otherwise, why rewrite. But, you can still have some episodes that are pretty Sam-Dean centric without the supporting cast here and there. I love the suggestion to make it a bit more of an ensemble series from the start, Sam and Dean can be the stars still, but it would be more Buffy or The Flash etc. with a supporting cast.

You can even turn the pilot into a two-part/two-hour episode, and expand things. Legends of Tomorrow, got a two-part pilot. And of course Buffy did too. It could be interesting to do that, and maybe expand on the flashback opening with Mary's death, and showing John meeting Missouri, Ellen and Bobby. I saw the suggestion of Charlie being one of Sam's college friends, maybe show her with Sam and Jessica in the pilot, and then bring her back in that Shape Shifter episode, where an old college friend of Sam's calls him for help or whoever that girl was replace it with Charlie. That way you can ease her into the story on/off.
