Well that explains it, too bad because the show was never the same when Hilda and Zelda left.
I did like how it ended though with Sabrina and Harvey.

I liked Aunt Hilda and Zelda on this series. Especially Hilda since she was so much like my sister.

Aunt Hilda and Zelda were great characters. I am curious how this new reboot of Sabrina will go. It will be strange seeing Hilda and Zelda not in being funny and comedic like the original series. Also how will Salem fit in the series, he worked much better in a comedy setting.

I wonder why they just don't make it a sitcom again. Worked just fine the first time.

I wonder why they just don't make it a sitcom again. Worked just fine the first time. Teen sitcoms have fallen out of fashion since the 90s. The only ones you ever see anymore are Disney Channel/Nickelodeon stuff that's aimed at young preteens (and usually designed to market a pop princess, ala. Hannah Montana). Nowadays, teen shows are all about sex, angst, and drama, preferably with a supernatural or mystery bent. This is why Archie was adapted into an edgy PLL-style drama. Had Riverdale been made in 1997, it would've been a fluffy TGIF sitcom just like Sabrina and Boy Meets World.

Truth be told, I really don't like what has been done to Archie and Co. since the Comics Code was scrapped. Guess I'm just showing my age again, but I wish Archie and his gang had stayed time locked into the 1950's like they used to be.
Perhaps Disney should have picked the new Sabrina up. At least then we wouldn't have to worry about them throwing f-bombs around.

Yeah I don't get why they don't do the sitcom, but I think it has to do with television changing. Of course a darker Sabrina might appeal more, and I get why many don't like Riverdale, especially if you grew up with the old one. I personally love Riverdale, but I never saw the Archie Comics, so my opinion might be different than someone you has seen them.
But I liked Pretty Little Liars, but the show got so bad. I'm not interested in this spin-off, and not planning on seeing it. The show should of ended after season 2 when they revealed who the first A was, it had a natural conclusion.

Yeah, I grew up reading Archie Comics (and watching Sabrina) as a kid, so it's tough for me to see Archie as an edgy teen drama. Plus, my experiences with PLL have left me burned out on those kinds of shows. But I liked Pretty Little Liars, but the show got so bad. The biggest thing that killed PLL was that ABC Family kept renewing the show again and again (since they were unable to create another hit to replace PLL), so storylines had to be dragged out long past their natural endpoint and were never allowed to come to a solid conclusion. Seasons 3-5 felt like 80% filler/20% story, while Seasons 6-7 were just 100% crap. The series finale was the biggest letdown and waste of time ever.

And I found it so stupid how the storytelling made no sense. They were left in senior year of High School for nearly 4 years. And the timeline got so weird that an entire season would basically cover something that would be one month. Yep ABC Family kept renewing so the mysteries had to be dragged out so long. I hated the series final, and found it even more unrealistic that every couple were together in the end.

I hated the series final, and found it even more unrealistic that every couple were together in the end. What killed the show's timeline was the Season 5 renewal. They were originally planning on a 4 season run, with the first two seasons covering the Junior Year/Original A arc and the next two covering Senior Year/Big A. But, then, midway through Season 3, the show got renewed for Season 5, and that forced them to stretch out their plans to last through a full extra season. End result, the timeline slowed to a crawl, and Season 4/early Season 5 were 99% filler (a good chunk of which was provided by the failed Ravenswood spinoff). And, whatever wasn't killed by the Season 5 renewal was snuffed out by the Seasons 6 and 7 renewal. Since the show couldn't realistically keep the girls in high school for any longer than they already did, we wound up with the disaster known as the time jump.

If you ask me, Sabrina works more as a comedy. That is why this show is still fondly remembered.

I have trepidations about a dark Sabrina, I just don't think it'll work, but I'll reserve judgment for now.

I'm with you on this one, Adam. Sabrina was always meant to be light and funny.
If they want to make a dark show about the scary world of a teenage witch, then they should just use original characters.

It will be a change for sure. Might appeal to the younger crowd, but us older fans of the original will not immediately like it. We need time.

I agree. The original sitcom brings back nice memories of the 1990's for me.
